Barring those mentioned above, George Orwell as a child did not make any significant contribution to literature. He was also actively involved in editing a school magazine. At the age of eleven George Orwell wrote a poem that was published in a local newspaper. ![]() Then George Orwell also tried to write a short story in which he miserably failed. But George Orwell frankly admitted that his poem was plagiarized on Blakes 'Tiger,Tiger'. That was the first writing venture embarked upon by him. Early in his childhood, at the age of four or five, George Orwell dictated a poem called 'Tiger', to his mother. George Orwell was convinced very early in his childhood that he was destined to become a writer and he knew that he had a flair for the words in English language. In the process, he beautifully explained the factors that motivated a person to develop into a writer. ![]() What I like most about George Orwell was his frankness in narrating how he became a writer. Whenever, I need inspiration on writing or whenever I feel dull, I read this essay, running into only a few pages, to get charged up. ![]() Written in 1946, George Orwell's classic essay 'Why I Write?' still remains one of the best treatises on writing. ![]()
